Ten Must-See Live Shows Coming to Albany in June

Welcome to June! There’s so much incredible live music happening throughout the City of Albany New York, and it’s the perfect month to get out and enjoy a world-class concert! This month features the return of the annual Alive at 5 Summer Concert Series, plus headlining performances from old school favorites and rising stars at a variety of vibrant outdoor festivals and at a number of Albany’s iconic music & arts venues. With so many diverse acts coming to New York’s Capital City this month, there’s something for everyone, and ParkAlbany continues to provide convenient event parking at our three downtown parking garages and uptown parking lots which are all just a quick walk from your venue!

6/1: Gary Clark Jr. at the Palace Theatre

Kick off June with a thrilling show from Gary Clark Jr., one of America’s most accomplished and exciting blues rock guitarists! Winning four Grammy Awards for Best R&B Performance, Best Contemporary Blues Album, Best Rock Performance, and Best Rock Song, you won’t want to miss this dynamic artist perform in one of Downtown Albany’s most legendary venues! Clark began playing guitar at the age of 12 in Austin, Texas and played smaller gigs for several years until crossing paths with promoter Clifford Antone, the owner of a local club which helped jumpstart the career of blues legends Jimmie and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Gary connected with Jimmie and Stevie through Antone’s club and played together for years, along with other Austin-based musicians, and his career skyrocketed from there! With 6 critically acclaimed studio albums under his belt and guest appearances on songs from artists Talib Kweli, Foo Fighters, Tech N9ne, and Childish Gambino, Gary Clark Jr. shows no signs of stopping, and this must-see Saturday night show at the historic Palace Theatre is the perfect opportunity to experience this iconic blues rock icon for yourself!

6/3: Charley Crockett at Empire Live

Country icon Charley Crockett is arguably one of the most discussed artists in the Americana/Country music scene today! Releasing 12 studio albums, 27 music videos and 31 singles in a 9-year span, this intriguing artist has found a resurgence online within the Country scene and has attracted a whole new generation of Country music fans. Born and raised in Texas, Crockett, (a descendant of famous frontiersman Davy Crockett) is a self-taught guitar player who received his first guitar at 17 from his mother. He left high school soon after with his pawn shop guitar and started traveling to busk in the streets of the French Quarter in New Orleans and in Dallas, Texas. By 2009, Crockett hitchhiked his way north to perform in the streets of New York City and later caught the attention of a Sony Music representative, who signed him and his street band “The Trainrobbers” to a 2-year deal. Since 2015, Crockett has been a mainstay on the Billboard Country charts, with his 2024 release hitting Number 1 on the US Heat Charts. $10 Cowboy brought a fusion of Country and Soul that garnered universal acclaim among critics and fans across the internet, and his eponymous tour at Empire Live is sure to make for a fun-filled evening for both seasoned and new Country fans alike!

6/4: Bonnie Raitt at the Palace Theatre

Blues legend Bonnie Raitt is back in Albany and ready to give her fans “Something to Talk About”! Regarded as one of America’s most prolific roots-influenced artists, Bonnie is back at the Palace to perform during her “Just Like That” 2024 Tour. Her illustrious career spans over 5 decades, transcending generations and offering a dynamic catalog of world-class music that few others can replicate. Bonnie has received 13 Grammy Awards, a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, an induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and was named both the 89th greatest guitarist of all time and the 50th greatest singer of all time by Rolling Stone! As a prolific singer/songwriter since 1971, Raitt has used her platform for activism and charity, and her legacy in the blues/country/rock/folk scene still holds strong today. Catch her dazzling live act within the historic Palace Theatre, located in the heart of Downtown Albany and just a quick walk from amazing bars and restaurants to unwind at before the show! Parking for this highly anticipated show will be available at both the Quackenbush & Riverfront Garages, but attendees can beat the before and after show traffic by parking at the Riverfront Garage, which is just a 6-minute walk from the Palace Theatre!

6/8: Fat Joe at Empire Live

Calling all East Coast hip-hop fans: Fat Joe is set to hit the stage for a thrilling Saturday night show at Empire Live! After kicking off his rap career as a member of the New York City hip-hop group “Diggin’ in the Crates Crew” in 1992, Joe Cartagena pursued a solo career one year later and released his first solo record Represent. By 1998, this Bronx rapper formed the Terror Squad and a subsequent record label in 1998, which included notable rappers Big Pun, Tony Sunshine, Cuban Link, and Remy Ma along with then-unknown producers Cool & Dre and DJ Khaled! Since the late 1990s, Fat Joe released 8 studio albums, appeared in 19 movies, 2 TV shows, and 3 video games! From his dynamic entertainment career to his notorious feud with 50 Cent, this infamous New York rapper remains a staple of the East Coast rap movement, and hip-hop lovers are in for a treat when he delivers his renowned lyricism at Downtown Albany’s newest music venue. And for those traveling by car, our nearby Quackenbush & Riverfront Garages are located a quick 4-minute walk from all the action!

6/9: Bonnie McKee at the Capital Pride Festival in Washington Park

The Northeast’s third largest pride celebration kicks off on June 9th, featuring a vibrant parade through the historic Center Square neighborhood, a massive gathering in Washington Park, and a special headlining performance from Bonnie McKee! This singer/songwriter from Seattle is set to keep the energy high during the 2024 Capital Pride Festival and bring her infectious dance-worthy pop/synthpop to thousands of spectators and festivalgoers. McKee is renowned for her upbeat music and co-writing of massive hits from artists like Katy Perry, Taio Cruz, Britney Spears, Kesha, Cher, Kelly Clarkson, and more! Following her success in co-writing, her first single under Epic Records “American Girl” went viral, launching her independent career and kickstarting her acclaimed pop career. Her newest release Hot City dropped on May 31st, so June 9th is the perfect time to get outside, enjoy the legendary pride festival, and experience the brand-new music from this exciting pop star in Albany’s premier public park!

6/12: Stevie Nicks at the MVP Arena

World-class singer/songwriter Stevie Nicks makes her triumphant return to Albany on June 12th, and “I Can’t Wait” for this prestigious artist to dazzle her adoring fans at the MVP Arena! Since 1966, Nicks captured the hearts of fans around the world during her iconic tenure in Fleetwood Mac, gaining widespread recognition and becoming part of one of the world’s best-selling musical acts of all time. Fleetwood Mac was seemingly atop the music world through the 1970s, and between 1979-1980, Nicks recorded demos on the side for a new solo project while the band was crafting their 12th studio album Tusk. Her band members Danny Goldberg and Paul Fishkin founded Modern Records in 1980 to release and record Nicks’ solo material, and Stevie released Bella Donna in 1981. This record cemented her position as one of the world’s most beloved artists, and Rolling Stone deemed her the “Reigning Queen of Rock and Roll”. Today, Nicks remains a musical legend between her tenure in Fleetwood Mac and as a solo artist, and the MVP is sure to be rocking during this can’t-miss concert! Be sure to start the fun early by parking at the Green-Hudson or Riverfront Garages and grabbing some delicious pints and bites from one of the wonderful nearby bars and restaurants!

6/13: Dokken at Alive at 5

Get rockin’ with Dokken during the annual Alive at 5 Summer Concert Series along the Hudson River! Free outdoor concerts are back in Albany, and Alive at 5’s Rock Night features an electrifying performance from this Los Angeles glam metal collective. Formed in 1978 by distinctive vibrato-laden vocalist Don Dokken, this band was at the forefront of the glam metal movement and attained commercial success and airplay with their debut album Breaking the Chains in 1981. After a successful tour supporting Scorpions in 1986, Dokken went on to record Back for the Attack, their first record to hit certified Gold and Platinum thanks to their smash hits “Dream Warriors” and “Burning Like a Flame”, cementing their role among the top glam metal acts worldwide. Dokken continued to hone their anthemic arena rock/glam metal sound and image until their eventual split in 1989 due to creative and personal differences. In 1993, Dokken reformed and underwent several lineup changes before settling on their current lineup for their reunion tours in the mid 2010s. Currently, this California band continues touring extensively and remains a powerhouse of the glam metal genre. Fans of classic rock and the 1980s glam scene are sure to love a throwback performance during Alive at 5, and Albany’s waterfront is the place to be to rock out this June!

6/20: Tito Puente Jr. at Alive at 5

Experience a thrilling Thursday evening show along the Hudson River with Tito Puente Jr.! As the son of Tito Puente, affectionately dubbed “The King of the Timbales”, Tito Puente Jr. keeps his late father’s legacy alive with his energetic live band and mind-blowing percussion skills. Tito Sr. was a lively bandleader who was behind the proliferation of the East Coast mambo movement in the 1940s-1950s and helped bring Cuban and Caribbean sounds like mambo and cha-cha-chá to mainstream audiences. His big-band sound captivated audiences across the world and kept everyone dancing for over 50 years! Following his father’s passing, Tito Jr. sought to keep his legacy alive and continued to perform both his father’s iconic music and his own original hits, all while encompassing that distinctive mambo/jazz sound. Tito Jr. has since emerged as one of the most exciting touring Latin musicians, bringing an explosive stage presence to his live shows that you won’t want to miss! Alive at 5’s Latin Night is sure to be amazing, and convenient event parking is available just a short walk away from both our Quackenbush & Riverfront Garages in Downtown Albany.

6/22: Monica at the MVP Arena

Get ready for an action-packed evening at the MVP Arena during the Ladies Love R&B Concert, featuring a stacked lineup of world-famous R&B artists, including Monica! Born and raised in Georgia, Monica has been a fixture of the R&B scene since 1991 and gained prominence following the release of her debut record Miss Thang in 1995. Following her rise to stardom, Monica’s second album The Boy Is Mine in 1998 became her best-selling album, spawning three Billboard number one singles due to her having more creative control over the recorded material. This record became an iconic R&B album, and her success continued through the 2000s-2010s, as she won a Grammy Award, a Billboard Video Music Award, a BET Award, and a Soul Train Award. Thanks to her commercial success, her popularity allowed her to branch out from music and into acting! Monica had roles on iconic shows like Living Single and Felicity, and she also appeared in the movies Boys and Girls, Love Song, as well as her own twelve-episode reality series titled Monica: Still Standing. From movies to music, Monica is a legendary artist who continues to enchant fans with her commanding stage presence and iconic alto singing voice. For fans of R&B, the “Ladies Love R&B” concert is the perfect opportunity to witness Monica’s talents here in the Capital Region! Be sure to park early at the Green-Hudson Garage and enjoy Downtown Albany’s incredible bars and restaurants before an unforgettable concert at the MVP Arena!

6/27: Vanessa Carlton at Alive at 5

Make your way downtown towards the Hudson Riverfront and sing along with Vanessa Carlton! Alive at 5’s Pop Night closes out June in a big way, and Carlton is slated to bring her piano-driven hits to another action-packed Thursday show in New York’s Capital City. Fun fact: When Carlton was just two years old, she played “It’s a Small World” on the piano after a trip to Disneyland, and this kickstarted Vanessa’s interest in music and performing! She was later tutored by her mother and introduced to classical music as a child and by age 14, she enrolled in the School of American Ballet. By the late 1990s, Carlton moved from rural Pennsylvania to New York City and began performing in nightclubs to grow more comfortable with playing in front of audiences. Following a meeting with producer Peter Zizzo, Carlton wrote her debut record Be Not Nobody and released it in 2002. This album reached Certified Platinum status in the United States and earned her 3 Grammy Award nominations thanks to her smash hits “A Thousand Miles”, “Ordinary Day” and “Pretty Baby”. Since then, she has churned out 5 additional studio albums, got married to John McCauley of the band Deer Tick in a wedding officiated by Stevie Nicks, and made her Broadway debut in the Carole King musical “Beautiful”. With 24 years of acclaimed live entertainment in her repertoire, Alive at 5’s Pop Night is sure to be an incredible outing, and fans are sure to adore an evening of Carlton’s iconic pop hits along the scenic Hudson River!
