February is here and no matter how you choose to spend the month of love, Albany, NY has a plethora of events for you to enjoy without spending a dime! Whether you want to sing out loud with Elsa at the Palace Theatre or party with your gal pals at Lost and Found, you can do it all and more in New York’s Capital City!
If you’ve ever wanted to learn more about the history of your favorite New York sports teams, this is the event for you! On Thursday, February 6th at 6:00pm, join New York State Museum Sports Curator, Stephen Loughman at Common Roots Albany Outpost for a night of fun, history, and sports! Starting with a historical overview, this interactive event showcases New York sports teams throughout the decades and how they affected the sports culture in New York. Grab a pint and a bite and sit back and enjoy this one-of-a-kind historical event presented by the New York State Museum and Common Roots Brewing.
Nearby on-street parking along Broadway and Spencer St.is free on weekdays after 5pm and all day on weekends. Additional paid off-street parking is available in the adjacent Quackenbush Lot.


It’s time to jam out with Two Planets Away! Comprised of members from Capital Zen, Formula 5, Shu, and The Minivans, Two Planets Away is back again on February 7th at 6:00pm for a show at The Eleven at Lark Hall! With their “jam R&B” style songs and energetic performances, Two Planets Away‘s show at one of the Capital Region’s best live venues is sure to be a show you do not want to miss!
02/08: North to New York Film Screening
Grab your popcorn and your drink because it’s movie time! On February 8th, enjoy a free screening of WMHT’s documentary “North to New York: The Great Migration in NY’s Capital Region”. This original film showcases the story of those that participated in the Great Migration traveling from to the South to the Capital Region. Immediately following the film is a discussion panel starring 4 distinguished individuals such as the Chief Curator of the New York State Museum and the President of the Rapp Road Historical Association. Held at the Huxley Theatre in the New York State Museum, doors open at 2:30pm and the film screening starts at 3:00pm. And remember, on-street metered parking near the State Museum is free all day on the weekends!


02/08-02/09: Capital Region Spring Home Show
Are you a homeowner looking to spruce up your place this season? On February 8th and 9th, stop by the “Capital Region Spring Home Show” for tips and ideas on how to improve your home this year. Whether you are interested in a minor renovation or a major project, this is the event for you! Guests can learn from home-improvement experts, get special discounts, discover new products and more! This two-day event will be held at the Albany Capital Center on Saturday, February 8th from 10:00am until 8:00pm and Sunday, February 9th from 10:00am until 5:00pm.
It’s party time! Grab your favorite gal pals and head on down to Lost and Found Bar and Kitchen! On February 13th, aka Galentines Day, the Lost and Found Bar and Kitchen is hosting a Galentines Day party for all the girls from 8:00pm until 11:30pm. Featuring DJ Fearless playing tracks from big-name stars such as Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter, and Ariana Grande, this free 21+ event is the perfect way to spend Galentines Day! Guests can take pictures with their besties at the photobooth, trade friendship bracelets, participate in giveaways and so much more! And don’t forget, on-street parking in Downtown Albany is free after 5:00pm on weekdays!


Celebrate Valentine’s Day and Black History Month with the “Taste of Africa” Fashion Show at the New York State Education Building. Hosted by New York State Senator James Sanders Jr., this free event showcases and highlights the culture, traditions, and heritage of Africa in a fun and unique way! Not only is this an excellent way to honor the African culture, but it’s also an amazing networking opportunity! Event attendees will be able to mingle with powerful individuals such as government officials from state agencies, elected officials, local leaders, and more! After the fashion show, you can also attend the “Taste of Africa After Party” from 10:00pm until 1:00am at the Albany Black Chamber of Commerce and Social Club.
Spend your President’s Day with a trip to the Albany Institute of History and Art for Family Free Day! On February 17th from 10:00am until 5:00pm, this Albany staple will be offering free admission to all visitors to enjoy all the amazing exhibits the institute has to offer. From current exhibitions including “Americans Who Tell the Truth” and “Portrait Pairings” to permanent pieces such as their 3,000 year-old mummy and extensive collection of Hudson River School, guests are sure to have a great day at the Albany Institute of History and Art!
